Treasures

There are about 8.7 million estimated total number of species on Earth. The species about which I’m writing today is something we cannot ignore. Also, fortunately, we all have encountered this deadly creature. Yes, I said 'FORTUNATELY'. These creatures are termed “friends”.

Remember your first day of school? Friends are the ones who make those twelve years bearable. Some last within the walls of the school, while some stay forever but the treasure we all share for the lifetime is memories. Let’s travel down memory lane and take a look at this film. Remember distributing toffees to the whole class and keeping extra for your best friend. The time when four people either shared a single lunch of sticky Maggie or were found fighting in the school canteen. Ever been in punishment, standing outside the classroom with a moron standing beside you laughing? The discussion for the day of the function or class party started with bringing a bag and discussing what to bring for lunch. The time when we used to prank our classmates. When a random person ate during the period, and the classroom filled with the aroma of a cold tiffin box.

The joy of playing pen fight or tic tac toe in a free period and the sorrow of studying maths during a P.T. period was our kind of daily soap. Wishing good morning in a unison, and trying to distract the class. When we used to calculate love percentage/ FLAMES and friends teased by our crush’s name. Eating ice cream after school hours. Counting students in each row to see which paragraph I have to read. How can we forget our field trips? Was your school too, built on a graveyard? Hearing “this is the worst batch” from our teachers was like a ritual. Remember pushing your notebook below other ones in the pile to escape getting scolded. These memories were once our life, and these people became an important part of it. In the cookie of life, friends are the Choco chips. A best friend is the one who stays with you no matter what. This one’s a weird creature who somehow knows you better than anyone else. They are your partner in crime, standing with you in punishment and ready to slap you if you ever screw up in life. From the loud chit – chats, and gossips, to being speechless on the farewell, school life ended. We begin the journey crying and leave crying, friends become our family away from family. From the first hello! To scribbling wishes on our uniforms, we step into another phase of life.

Then comes college life, we gather many more memories and more friends to our lives. Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they're always there. As we grow up, our memories increase and friends decrease. But deep down, we remember each person we met on different steps of life.

Being friends is all about being lazy together, doing crazy things, having an unpaid therapist, being up for anything anytime, taking out time for important things, choosing a family for yourself, having each other’s back, all without any expectations.

“Rare as is true love, true friendship is rarer.” - Jean de la Fontaine
